Shenan2

Based on a Screenplay by James Lee Barrett
Lyrics by Peter Udell
Music by Gary Geld
Book by
James Lee Barrett, Peter Udell and Philip Rose
Shenandoah is the story of Charlie Anderson and his struggle to protect his daughter and six sons on their Virginia farm as the War Between the States rages about them. It is a tale of love and war, joy and pain, adventure and romance. Among the most emotionally powerful musicals of Broadway, Shenandoah includes joyous songs of romance and new birth, desperate songs of sorrow and anger, tender lullabies and comic dance tunes.
It will make you angry.
It will make you laugh.
It will make you cry.

Produced by Barbara Garvey Myers
Barbara Myers is a whirlwind. When she became involved in this production it changed from an effort to "do Shenandoah" to a crusade to establish a biennial community production company and provide major funding for local charities.
Barbara is married to Dr. Hunter Myers. She and Hunter have two daughters, Zoe and Morgan, both of whom appear as Charlie's imaginary grandchildren in Shenandoah.
Directed by Rudy Childs
Rudy Childs is a veteran director in the Rome area. His productions of Oklahoma, Annie, Peter Pan, Wizard of Oz and Rodgers' and Hammerstein's Cinderella, all at the Rome Little Theater, have been praised for their casting, beautiful sets, outstanding choreography and careful blocking. He has also participated in several of the biennial Junior Service League Follies productions, twice directing the special children's portion.
Rudy is the owner of Traditions of Rome, a store that specializes in holiday decor, home interiors and carpet and provides home and commercial decorating services.
Rudy graduated from Mars Hill College and earned a masters degrees in Fine Arts from the Furman University. He is married to Sherry Childs (a member of the congregation in the church scenes) who is principal at Pepperell Elementary School.
Music Directed by Brian Horne

Brian Horne has attended virtually every rehearsal for Shenandoah and provided individual and group lessons for vocals for the production. A stickler for precision, he has expected hard work, concentration and attention to the details of support, timing and dynamics. He has also been the consummate team player who is always there to pitch in.
Brian, a member of the music faculty at Shorter College, is an accomplished tenor soloist who has performed many roles in musical theatre and opera. He says that he is involved in Shenandoah so that he can wear the Confederate corporals uniform! His beautiful tenor solo as the just freed POW in the final act - "The Only Home I Know" - is a showstopper!
Orchestra Conducted by Bill King
Bill King has put together a fine orchestra for this production, and as always, has fit right into the production team. In concert with rehearsal accompanist James Willis and music director Brian Horne, he has arranged the music to fit the sometimes last minute changes of stage blocking, rearranged choreography and idiosyncrasies of the lead vocalist!
Bill is band director at Darlington School, where he just finished directing the music for Mame a week before Shenandoah opens!
He has previously directed the orchestras for numerous local productions including Wizard of Oz and Cinderella.
Special Accompaniment by James Willis
An indispensable element of this production has been the wonderful versatility and mastery and creativity of our rehearsal accompanist, James Willis. James can make his keyboard an orchestra, an individual flute or guitar or pump organ, or even a sound effects machine. He can rearrange, lengthen, shorten, or otherwise edit the score on a moments notice to fit the changes of choreography, blocking, or scene changes. James is a sound technician for The Music Room and is a recognized expert in this area for designing and installing sound systems for churches, theaters and schools.
